This is our Community Library. It's a great opportunity to help visitors understand the context and background of different therapy approaches, resources and other relevant information.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is a practical, evidence-based approach that can help you better understand the connection between your thoughts, feelings, and behaviours.

When we are struggling with anxiety, depression, stress, relationship difficulties, or other challenges, it can be easy to get caught in patterns of thinking or behaviour that leave us feeling stuck. CBT helps you recognize these patterns and develop healthier, more effective ways of responding.

In CBT, we work collaboratively to understand what you are experiencing and identify the thoughts and behaviours that may be contributing to your difficulties. Together, we develop practical strategies that you can use in your everyday life to manage difficult emotions, challenge unhelpful thinking, and make meaningful changes.

CBT is often structured and goal-oriented, but your therapy is tailored to your individual needs. Sessions may include learning new coping skills, exploring thought patterns, practicing new ways of responding to challenging situations, and setting achievable goals between sessions.

Most importantly, CBT is not about simply “thinking positively.” It is about developing a more balanced and helpful way of understanding yourself and your experiences.

You don't have to figure everything out on your own. CBT can provide you with the tools, support, and understanding to move forward with greater confidence and control.

Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)

Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) is a practical, skills-based approach that helps you better understand and manage intense emotions.

When emotions feel overwhelming, it can be difficult to think clearly, communicate effectively, or respond in ways that reflect who you want to be. DBT provides practical tools to help you manage these moments and build greater emotional balance.

Together, we may work on skills related to emotion regulation, distress tolerance, mindfulness, and interpersonal effectiveness. These skills can help you respond to difficult situations more intentionally, strengthen relationships, and develop healthier ways of coping.

DBT can be particularly helpful for individuals who experience intense emotions, difficulty managing stress, relationship challenges, impulsive behaviours, or patterns that feel difficult to change.

DBT is not about suppressing your emotions. It is about learning to understand your emotions and respond to them in ways that are more effective and aligned with your goals.

You can learn skills to navigate difficult moments without letting them define you.

Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR)

EMDR is a structured, evidence-based therapy that can help people process distressing experiences and reduce the emotional impact they continue to have.

Sometimes, difficult or traumatic experiences can remain “stuck,” causing memories, emotions, physical sensations, or reactions to continue affecting us long after the event has passed. EMDR helps the brain process these experiences in a way that can reduce their intensity and emotional impact.

EMDR does not require you to provide every detail of a traumatic experience or repeatedly talk about it. Instead, therapy involves a structured process that helps you safely revisit aspects of difficult experiences while using specific bilateral stimulation techniques.

EMDR may be helpful for trauma and PTSD, as well as anxiety, distressing memories, phobias, and other experiences that continue to affect your everyday life.

Your safety and sense of control are central to the process. We work at a pace that feels manageable for you and ensure you have the tools and support needed before processing difficult experiences.

Healing doesn't mean forgetting what happened. It means no longer allowing the past to control your present.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) helps you build a more meaningful life while learning to navigate difficult thoughts and emotions.

Sometimes, the harder we try to avoid uncomfortable feelings, the more they can take over our lives. ACT helps you develop a different relationship with difficult thoughts and emotions—one that allows you to experience them without letting them control your decisions.

In ACT, we work together to identify what matters most to you and the kind of life you want to create. You will learn practical strategies to become more aware of your thoughts and emotions, reduce their impact, and make choices that are consistent with your values.

ACT can be helpful for anxiety, depression, stress, life transitions, relationship difficulties, and many other concerns.

The goal isn't to eliminate every difficult thought or feeling. Instead, ACT helps you develop the flexibility and confidence to move forward, even when life feels difficult.

You can make meaningful changes without waiting to feel “better” first.
